1. Check what the country requires
First ask the university, employer or institution abroad whether they want an apostille, a translation and in which language. Some countries, such as Germany, Italy and Austria, may want a translation made in their territory.
2. Apostille
For Hague Convention countries, the diploma receives an apostille from the competent institution for that type of document. For countries that do not recognize the apostille, full legalization at the Ministry and the embassy is needed.
3. Translation and certification
A sworn translator translates the diploma and supplement, and the translator's signature is certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
What to prepare
- The original diploma and supplement – returned to you
- A power of attorney for the agency's representative
- Which country and for what purpose the document is needed
Common mistakes
- Ordering a translation before checking whether the country accepts translations from Bulgaria
- A missing power of attorney, so the representative cannot file the document
- Wrong data in the diploma – it cannot be corrected in the translation
