Certificate of heirs – translation and legalization
For settling an inheritance, closing bank accounts, pensions and property abroad.
When you need it
A certificate of heirs is needed when the deceased had property, a bank account, a pension or insurance in another country, or when the heirs live abroad. Foreign banks and notaries usually require a translation with an apostille.
Who issues it
It is issued by the municipality of the deceased's last permanent address. Municipal certificates get their apostille at the regional administration; the document is then translated and the translator's signature is certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
What to check
- The document bears the municipality's signature and seal
- All heirs are listed with their full names
- Names are spelled correctly – give us the heirs' ID cards or passports and we will follow them
- A death certificate is often translated together with it
